Born in 1978, James Renner is an American writer and investigative journalist who has also worked as a producer and director. Renner was a Cleveland Scene reporter before editing The Cleveland Independent, an alternative newspaper. Renner's catalogue covers true crime, science fiction and thrillers, from Amy: My Search for Her Killer (2006) and The Serial Killer's Apprentice (2008) to The Man from Primrose Lane (2012). The Porchlight Project, a nonprofit Renner set up in 2019, helps families of people who are missing or were murdered. A Cruise to Nowhere (2026) is the newest title.
