Molière was the stage name of Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, a French playwright, actor and poet baptised on 15 January 1622 and dead on 17 February 1673. Comedies, farces, tragicomedies and comédie-ballets make up the surviving work: 34 titles here, from The Flying Doctor (1645) through The Affected Young Ladies (1659) to The Hypochondriac in 1673. The plays exist in every major living language and are staged at the Comédie-Française more often than any other playwright's. French is sometimes named the language of Molière for that reason.
