Phillip Hoose is an American writer of books, essays, stories, songs and articles, born on May 31, 1947. Hoose's first published works were written for adults, and later work turned to children and young adults. The Race to Save the Lord God Bird (2004) won the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award for nonfiction, and Claudette Colvin: Twice Toward Justice (2009) won the National Book Award for Young People's Literature.
