Richard Walden Yates, an American fiction writer who lived from February 3, 1926 to November 7, 1992, is associated with the mid-century Age of Anxiety. Revolutionary Road (1961), the first Yates novel, reached the finalists for the 1962 National Book Award, and the story collection Eleven Kinds of Loneliness (1962) drew comparisons with James Joyce. Yates won praise from critics but few sales during a lifetime that ended in 1992. The Easter Parade (1976), A Good School (1978) and Cold Spring Harbor (1986) are later titles.
