Robert Beatty is an American author of children's fantasy and a technology entrepreneur. Serafina and the Black Cloak (2015) began a four-book series that runs through Serafina and the Twisted Staff, Serafina and the Splintered Heart and Serafina and the Seven Stars (2019). Willa of the Wood (2018) and Willa of Dark Hollow (2021) make a second series, and Sylvia Doe and the 100-Year Flood arrived in 2024. Spirits, good and evil, and questions of identity run through the work, which is set partly at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, and has been translated into more than 20 languages. A television adaptation of Willa of the Wood is in development with Beatty as an executive producer.
