Green Knowe is a very old house, and six children's novels by Lucy M. Boston imagine the people who lived in it. Boston modelled the house on her own home, The Manor at Hemingford Grey in Huntingdonshire, and her son Peter Boston illustrated the books. The Children of Green Knowe (1954) opens the sequence, and Tolly and his great-grandmother Mrs Oldknow carry several of the stories. A Stranger at Green Knowe, fourth in the run, took the Carnegie Medal for 1961, and the first two books were commended runners up. The Stones of Green Knowe (1976) closes the series.
