James P. Blaylock is an American fantasy author, born in Long Beach, California on 20 September 1950, and one of the writers who started the steampunk genre. Blaylock names H. G. Wells, Jules Verne, Charles Dickens, Robert Louis Stevenson and Arthur Conan Doyle as influences, took an M.A. in English at California State University, Fullerton in 1974, and teaches creative writing at Chapman University. The Elfin Ship (1982) opens a 35-book catalogue that reaches The Gobblin' Society in 2020, through the Balumnia Trilogy, the Narbondo books, the Christian Trilogy and the Ghosts Trilogy.
